INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY POSTERS

From Roe v. Wade to girls losing out on education in Afghanistan and protests in Iran, the ground shook for women around the world in the past year as hard-won progress toward gender equality began to vanish. To objectively step back, it seems incomprehensible that half of our species historically has had to continually deal with all sorts of bullshit. The culprits are men, forever angrily jealous and envious of the fact that women, not men can make children.

Celebration of IWD has produced a rich collection of graphic posters over the past 106 years of its existence.

A poster from Germany prior to the first IWD which was established in 1917 by the Soviet Union. This poster was banned by the German Empire.

From the 2000's riffing on this famous poster:

In October 2022, an Iranian young woman Mahsa Amini died in police custody after being detained for allegedly violating laws governing women's dress. To this day, Iranians are protesting the death and the laws.

Artist Meysam Azarsod‘s protest art uses phrases from the 11th-century epic Shahnameh (“Book of Kings”). The poster on the left reads: “Once my father realizes that you’ve slain me, he will seek revenge.” On the right: “This massive army is useless. Indeed, a single fighting girl is worth hundreds of thousands of them.”
