SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS

From 1996 from the Squirrel Nut Zippers. This swing and jazz band was formed in 1993 in North Carolina during the swing revival of the 1990's. I always loved their name-from Wiki:

"Nut Zippers" is a southern term for a variety of old bootleg moonshine. The band's name comes from a newspaper story about an intoxicated man who climbed a tree and refused to come down even after police arrived. The headline was "Squirrel Nut Zipper."

This song was written by Tom Maxwell.

In the afterlifeYou could be headed for the serious strifeNow you make the scene all dayBut tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay

In the afterlifeYou could be headed for the serious strifeNow you make the scene all dayBut tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay

People listen attentivelyI mean about future calamityI used to think the idea was obsoleteUntil I heard the old man stamping his feet
This is a place where eternallyFire is applied to the bodyTeeth are extruded and bones are groundAnd baked into cakes which are passed around

In the afterlifeYou could be headed for the serious strifeNow you make the scene all dayBut tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay

Beauty, talent, fame, moneyRefinement, job skill and brainBut all the things you try to hideWill be revealed on the other side

In the afterlifeYou could be headed for the serious strifeNow you make the scene all day (meet the furnace)But tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay (yes it is it is hot)

Now the D and A and the M and the N and the AAnd the T and the I-O-NLose your faceLose your nameThen get fitted for a suit of flames

Now the D and A and the M and the N and the AAnd the T and the I-O-NLose your faceLose your nameThen get fitted for a suit of flames
