A tourist village in North Wales, which was the creation of one man's life and passion for 50 years. It is most notably known as "The Village" in the 1960's TV show "The Prisoner".

A very nice travel vid from YT gives you the essence of the place. One curious thing is its subtropical micro-climate. Palm trees grow there!

One of the many pleasures of a visit would be the chance of staying overnight in one of the few available rooms/cottages. How much fun it must be once the daytrippers have left. This brought to mind a similar experience I had on Mackinaw Island when we stayed overnight. We went on a pub crawl and out on the street, one only heard the sound of horse's hooves. In Portmeirion, there is a pub called the White Horses, taken from the local name for the white capped waves seen frequently during Spring storms.
A favorite saying by the creator of the village was that he valued and enjoyed the beauty of aging architecture. He would hear of old buildings readying for demolition and rescue whole chunks such as facades to be relocated in Portmeirion. What many admire about the village was his skill of putting things together aesthetically both in relation to each other but also the natural landscape.
Curiously, and the algorithms may be responsible, the end of the vid was followed by a commercial for Disney World, certainly a distinctly American cousin to Portmeirion. But from what I can see, the difference is the audience: Disney World is for kids, Portmeirion seems geared more for adults.
