HIBAKUJUMAKU

The only living thing that survived ground zero at Hiroshima, were ginko trees.

They did so because their roots grow deep enough to protect the tree from the heat of the blast. This very attribute saved them from the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs. Many of the trees who survived that August day are still alive.

The Japanese call them Hibakujumaku or bombed trees.
