FINAL NAME

Our cat has a full name now. Bertram "Buddy" Longfellow. A good, sturdy UK name for the lad, we thought. We did not know until we looked it up, Bertram is Germanic from berht ("bright") and hramn ("raven"). However, the Wiki article provided a list of notable Bertrams throughout history and it seems the name pops up in both Germany and the UK. As for ravens (Wiki) "Because of its black plumage, croaking call, and diet of carrion, the raven is often associated with loss and ill omen. Yet, its symbolism is complex. As a talking bird, the raven also represents prophecy and insight. Ravens in stories often act as "psychopomps", connecting the material world with the world of spirits."

Curious, coming on the heels of my recent post "The Crow Witness" following Molls' death.

To me, his name reminds me of either a pince nez wearing Cambridge professor emeritus or a respected member of a local Rotary Club from the 50's.
