4/14- How cold of a Spring has it been? It's been so cold that we have no dandelions yet! All growth seems to be in slow motion and I would imagine all feel like they're wearing a corset-ready to bust. I'm all for savoring the moment but I would really enjoy those wondrous, transcendent days where one can feel and see the growth pulsating, wild, bursting all at once. It's one of the reasons I live here and each year it is well worth the wait to witness and experience. A couple of warm days outta do it!
Today is gorgeous, mid-60's and breezy. The yellow daffs are blooming:

The Diner was busy with both feather and fur patrons and at one point, there were 4 mature squirrels. Freddie was part of this group and of course, jumped up on a raised bed to ask for peanuts.
Alas, tomorrow will be cold with rain/snow mixed. Upper MI will see a couple of inches with much more impacting the UP.
4/15-the weatherman did not lie-all morning rain and snow. And, an unwanted harbinger of Spring:
Evidently, this one didn't get the memo that suggests that Chucks dislike cayenne pepper, which I had spread at the mouth of each apartment where this one is sitting. Tomorrow once the rain ends, I will reapply the pepper.
Later in the day, I saw a rara avis: a northern flicker. I remember these from where I grew up and have occasionally seen them here. He wouldn't sit still long enough to photograph.
A new chipper arrived a few weeks ago. Uhhh, dude-a word of warning: we have a small tiger that would love you as a snack. Beware!

Ancient mysteries:
Gallo-Roman dodecahedron
Generally made of copper alloy and produced between second and fourth centuries AD, the purpose of these objects have the experts scratching their heads. At least fifty theories exist from use in gambling to a child's toy.
The Osireion
Located in Abydos, Egypt along the Nile, this mainly underground structure is a puzzle. Its purpose seems to be connected with water as there is some kind of spring that feeds the system. The quality of stone-cutting craftsmanship and construction is astounding, leading some to wonder if this is another example of Egyptian structures that were built by an unknown civilization predating the Pharaohs. This theory is supported by the lack of any hieroglyphics that usually accompany any structure built during Pharaohic times.

My roommate's coming home routines:
The Watergirl comes home and enjoys a long soak in the tub before joining me for supper.
Buddy prefers to eat first, then snuggles next to me on the couch for scritches and some vigorous and intensive cleaning before settling in.

Blast from the past: Chris Montez
Mexican-American singer who scored his first hit in 1962 with "Let's Dance" which to my ear, points back to his hero Ritchie Valens. He later shifted from rock 'n roll to soft ballads after joining Herb Alpert's A&M records and had another hit in 1966 with "Call Me". It is this song that has stuck in my memory-as a youngun, his high tenor confused me as to his gender as the name Chris could go either way. Just heard it the other day on Sirius XM. At age 83, he is still performing!

His handlers evidently convinced Roach that he get an "official" physical from any fawning quack that could be found to quiet the constant questions from the press about his "fitness". The report cited his “frequent victories” in golf tournaments as evidence of his robust health although nothing was mentioned about his documented problems opening an umbrella.
