THE FABULOUS MR. GOULDIAN FINCH

 

Native to tropical northern Australia

Curiously, this species' males have either red or black heads. Yellow/orange heads are less common. This feature seems to be evolutionary linked to mating. (well, what isn't when it comes to plumage?)
